STATE OF MARYLAND,

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,
ANNAPOLIS, January 7th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

In response to the request contained in an order of your
Honorable Body, of the 3rd instant, I herewith transmit the
returns of the election for Senators, held on the 6th day of
November last.

I have the honor to be,

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Elec-
tions.

On motion of Mr. Kimmel,

Leave was granted to report a bill entitled, an Act to pro-
vide for taking the sense of the people upon the expediency
of a call of a Convention to frame a new Constitution for this
State, and to provide for electing delegates to said Convention
and fix its assemblage ;

Which was referred to the Committee already raised on
that subject.

On motion of Mr. Ohr,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill entitled, an Act for the relief of John
Welch.

Mr. Earle submitted the following message :

BY THE SENATE,

January 8th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

With the concurrence of your Honorable Body, we desire
the return of a message, transmitted to your Body on the 4th
instant, asking the appointment of a Joint Committee often,
and an equal number from each House, to report a bill for the
enfranchisement and restoration to rights of citizenship of cer-
tain citizens of this State; as this subject has already been
covered by leave to report a bill in your Honorable Body, of
which, at the time of our message, we were not aware.
