of time to organize and elect officers under the Act of 1860,
chapter 311.

Which was read and referred to the Dorchester and Caro-
line Delegations.

Mr. Steiner presented the memorial of John Need and 233
citizens of Frederick and Montgomery counties, to authorize
the construction of a railroad from Frederick by the most
eligible and practicable route through the central portion of
Montgomery county, to the District of Columbia, with au-
thority also to construct a branch road from Frederick, north-
erly or north-westerly to the Maryland and Pennsylvania
line;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpora-
tions.

Also, the memorial of R. H. Williams and 27 other citizens
of Frederick county, remonstrating against any legislative
action whereby the existing restrictions for the observance of
the Christian Sabbath would be relaxed;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
Sunday Law.

Mr. Aydelott presented the petition of 122 citizens of Wor-
cester county, in favor of the passage of a law for the relief
and protection of the hotel in said county;

Which was read and referred to the Worcester county
delegation.

On motion of Mr. Boswell,

Ordered, That so much of the Comptroller's report as re-
fers to auction licenses and auction duties, be referred to a select
committee of three, to be appointed by the Speaker, and that
said committee have power in investigating the returns, to
send for persons and papers; Messrs. Boswell, Nicolai
and Waltemeyer, constituted said committee.

On motion of Mr. Israel,

Ordered, That the members of the Select Committee ap-
pointed to select a site for a State Building in Baltimore city,
have leave to absent themselves from the sessions of the
House, so long as it may be necessary to attend to the prose-
cution of their duties.

Mr. Neilson offered the following:

Ordered, That the Special Committee on the Penitentiary
have leave of absence for the space of five days, to enable
them to discharge the duties assigned them;

Mr. Phelps moved to amend the order, by striking out the
word "five," and insert "three;"

Which was decided in the negative.
