The House met, and was opened with prayer by Mr.
Jones of Somerset.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.
Mr. Buhrman presented the petition of Samuel Snyder
and 107 other citizens of Frederick county, praying the pas-
sage of a law, authorizing the construction of a railroad from
the District of Columbia to the Pennsylvania line by way of
Frederick city;
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpora-
tions.
Mr. Kerr presented the petition of sundry citizens of Dor-
chester county, remonstrating against the passage of an Act
authorizing the Commissioners of said county to issue bonds
to assist in the construction of the Dorchester and Delaware
Railroad;
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inter-
nal Improvements.
Mr. Neilson, offered the following:
Ordered, That the Speaker be and he is hereby authorized
to appoint a Committee clerk in the place of Mr. Ware, who
has vacated his position; also, such other vacancies as may
exist;
Which was adopted.
Mr. Ford moved that the vote by which the order was
adopted be reconsidered;
Which was decided in the negative.
On motion of Mr. McCulloh,
Ordered, That the Committee on Corporations be and they
are hereby authorized and empowered to inquire of the Cum-
berland and Pennsylvania Railroad Company and of the Con-
solidation Coal Company under what charter they, or either
of them, work the line of railroad running from Cumberland
