Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Mr. Gorsuch presented the petition to change the name of
William St. John Pheasants to Wm. St. John Pheasants
Wingfield;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Also, the petitton of Lawrence J. Brengle and 216 other
citizens of Frederick county, asking for a charter to construct
a railroad from the District of Columbia to the Pennsylvnia
line;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of B. F. M. Hurley, for
services rendered the State as Military Relief Agent at
Washington, D. C.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims,

Mr. Hammond presented the memorial of 70 citizens Of
this State, showing that excessive tolls are being collected by
the Baltimore and Frederick Turnpike Company and asking
redress;

Which was read, and laid on the table.

Also, the petition of sundry citizens of Carroll county,
asking for the erection of additional Hay Scales in Baltimore
city;

Which was read and referred to a Special Committee.

Mr. Welch presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Kent county, for the protection of fruit-growers ;

Which was read and referred to Kent and Queen Anne's
County delegation.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of Job Haines, for com-
pensation for extra services in Comptrollers's office;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of Jas. G.
Wilson, President of the Yorktown Turnpike Company ;

Which was read and referred to Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Tobey presented a petition from citizens Keediesville,
Washington county, Md., for an act to prevent the sale of
liquor in Keediesville;

Which was read and referred to Washington County dele-
gation.

On motion of Mr. Clarke,

Ordered, That the compensation of the Speaker of this
House be the same as that of the Speaker of the last House
of Delegates.
