The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Tobey presented a petition from the German Baptists
of Washington county praying to be exempt from serving on
juries ;

Which was read and referred to the Washington county
delegation.

Mr. Hutchins presented a petition from Benjamin N. Payne,
R. J. Gittings and others, praying the passage of a hog law;

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore County del-
egation.

Mr. Waltemeyer presented a petition from John A.
Thompson for compensation ;

Which was read and referred to Committee on Claims.

Mr. Williams presented a petition from John H. Heyser,
of Washington county, to have certain taxes remitted ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Ford presented a petition from Jacob Lehman and
other citizens of Baltimore county, relative to the Washing-
ton turnpike road;

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore County del-
gation and 3d District, Baltimore City.

Mr. Knott presented a petition from the Corn and Flour
Exchange and Board of Trade of Baltimore, asking an ap-
propriation from the State in conjunction with the city of
Baltimore, for building, equipping and keeping in operation
an ice boat in the harbor of Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay;

Which was read and referred to Committee on Ways and
Means.

Mr. Magruder presented the report of the Trustees of the
Upper Marlboro' Academy ;

Which was read and referred to Committee on Education.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bill:

A bill entitled, an Act granting the assent of the Legisla-
ture to a legacy bequeathed by codicil to the last will and tes-
tament of Charlotte E. Graham, late of Cecil county, deceased,
to the Trustees of Zion Church, at Cecilton, in said county
