On motion of Mr. Hooper,

Leave was granted Messrs. Hooper, Turner and Boswell,to
introduce a bill providing for the appointment by the Gov-
ernor, of Inspectors of Lime, in the city of Baltimore.

On motion of Mr. Israel,

Leave was granted the Select Committee on the erection of
a State building of Baltimore, to introduce a bill providing
for the erection of a State building in the city of Baltimore,
in compliance with the recommendation of the Executive of
the State.

On motion of Mr. Smith,

Leave was granted the Committee on Ways and Means, to
introduce a bill suspending the operation of the assessment
made in the State of Maryland, in the year 1866, until 1870,
and until some future action of the General Assembly.

On motion of Mr. Calvert,

Leave was granted the Committee on Claims, to report a
bill to refund to Col. John H Waring, taxes erroneously paid
by him.

On motion of Mr Lankford,

Leave was granted the Committee on Ways and Means, to
report a bill entitled an Act, to repeal sections 126, 127, 128,
129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140,
141, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146; 147 and 148, of article 81, of
the Code of Public General Laws, entitled tax on Collateral
Inheritances, distributive Shares and Legacies; and also, to
repeal sections 124 and 125 of chapter 200, passed January
session, 1864, entitled an Act, to amend and re-enact section
124 and 125 of article 81, of the Code of Public General
Laws, entitled Revenue and Taxes, and relating to the tax
on Collateral Inheritances, Distributive Shares and Legacies.

On motion of Mr. Dennis,
The rules being suspended,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary, be in-
structed to consider and report what amendment is required
of the 43d article of the Code of Public General Laws, en-
titled Habeas Corpus, so as to prevent the perversion of that
writ from its legitimate use, to purposes of injustice and
oppression.

On motion of Mr. Waltemeyer,

Leave was granted the Committee on Ways and Means, to
introduce a bill exempting from execution and other process
of law, property to the value of three hundred dollars, in the
State of Maryland.
