The said bill was then sent to the Senate.

Mr, Jones, from Select Committee, reported a bill entitled,
an Act to change the name of John S. Smith, of Somerset
county, Maryland, to that of John S. Powell.

On motion of Mr. Stevens,

The report of the Committee on Rules was taken up.
Mr. Linthicum submitted the following amendment:
Strike out rule "thirty-six" and insert rule "thirty-seven"
of the last House ;

Which was rejected.

Mr. Carmichael, from the Committee on the Judiciary,
(the rules being suspended,) reported favorably a bill enti-
tled, an Act authorizing the payment of the salary of the
Hon. Silas Morris Cochran, late Associate Justice of the Court
of Appeals of Maryland, for the quarter ending December 31,
1866 ;

Which was read the first time.

Also, the bill entitled, an Act to provide for the selection,
drawing and summoning of juries in Washington, Frederick
and Carroll counties, and prescribing their qualifications.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the resolutions en-
dorsing the policy of President Johnson and Governor
Swann ;

Endorsed, passed by yeas and nays with proposed amend-
ment.

In the 12th line of the first resolution, before the word
"mode," insert "practicable."

The amendment was concurred in, and the Resolutions as
amended, passed by yeas and nays, as follows:
