The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the following mes-
sage :
BY THE SENATE,
January 10th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
We propose, by the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to appoint a Joint Committee, consisting of the Committees
on Printing of the Senate and your Honorable Body, and
that the report of the Comptroller, in compliance with the
order of the Senate and your Body, upon the subject of the
contract system of printing, be referred to said Committee,
the Committee to report the result of their examination by
the 15th inst.

Mr. Dennis presented a petition from Thomas S. Hudson,
for compensation for publishing laws of the State;
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.
Mr. Aydelott presented a petition from twenty-three citi-
zens of Worcester and Somerset counties, asking for the pas-
sage of a law creating the office of Lumber Inspector and
Wood Corder for all lumber and wood sold and shipped from
the Pocomoke river amounting to one thousand feet of lum-
ber and ten cords of wood ;
Which was read and referred to Worcester and Somerset
County delegations.
