On motion of Mr. Jones,

Leave was granted the Somerset delegation to report a bill
entitled, an Act to change the name of John 8. Smith, of
Somerset county, State of Maryland, to that of John S.
Powell.

Referred to Somerset delegation.

Also, leave was granted the Committee on Judiciary to re-
port a bill entitled, an Act to release all claims to interest of
the State in certain land in Somerset county, and to vest the
same in the surviving children and grand children of Titus
Davy, a person of color, late of said county, deceased.
On motion of Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted the Committee on Education to introduce
a bill entitled, an Act to alter and amend an Act entitled, an
Act to add a new Article to the Code of Public General Laws
to be entitled, "Public Instruction," providing a uniform
system of Free Public Schools for the State of Maryland, and
to repeal all existing laws inconsistent therewith, passed at
January session of 1865.

On motion of Mr. Aydelotte,

Leave was granted Worcester county delegation to report
a bill authorizing the Trustees of Newtown Academy, in
Worcester county, to sell and convey their academy and
grounds, and invest proceeds of such sale in erecting suitable
buildings for a High School in said town.

On motion of Mr. Boswell,

Leave was granted the Committee on Claims to introduce
a bill to compensate A. Lingon Jarrett, for services rendered
the State.
On motion of Mr. Horsey,

Leave was granted the Caroline county delegation, to re-
port a bill to incorporate Temple Lodge, No. 128, of Ancient
Free and accepted Masons.

Mr. Nicolai, from the committe on Corporations, reported
favorably the following bills :

A bill entitled an Act to continue the charter of the Can-
ton Company, of Baltimore;

A bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 8, 12, 13, 14, 15,
16,17, 18 and 19, of an Act to incorporate the Maryland
Life Insurance Company of Baltimore, and to re-enact, in
lieu thereof, sections 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, as
within recited ;

Which were read the first time.

Mr. Neilson, from the Select Committee, reported favora-
bly a bill entitled an Act to provide for the running of the
Baltimore City Passenger Railway Cars on Sunday, supple-
