1812, now ninety years of age, and entirely blind, who is
supported by private charity.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

On motion of Mr. Cameron,

Ordered, That the President and Managers of the Balti-
more and Frederick and the Baltimore and Reistertown Turn-
pike Companies, report to this House, on or before 21st Jan-
uary, 1867, by what authority they are charging the present
and excessive rate of toll, and also by what authority
of law, they have for erecting toll gates as close together
as they now have them erected and used, and also, if the
said companies or each of them have demanded or collected
tolls from persons using the road who reside between the gates
on either of said roads.

On motion of Mr. Criswell,

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr.
Poole, member from Carroll, is absent on account of family
affliction.

On motion of Mr. Clarke,

Ordered, That the Committee on Claims issue certificates
to the officers of this General Assembly, for the same per
diem as is paid to the members.

Mr. Morgan submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Speaker appoint some suitable person
to furnish this House with water, and that the Committee on
Claims pay to such person, so much as in their judgment his
services may be worth.

On motion of Mr. Ford,

The motion was laid on the table.

Mr. Clarke submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it is inexpedient for this House to order any
more extra printing, until we receive the information asked
from the Comptroller on the subject of printing, and are fully
informed and understand the contract system of printing and
the cost of the same.

Which was rejected.

On motion of Mr. Thompson,

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that William
Tell Bixler, of Baltimore city, is absent from this House on
account of illness.

On motion of Mr. Williams,

Ordered, That the Committee on Immigration inquire into
the expediency of having prepared a statement of the resouces
of the State of Maryland.
