Mr. Aydelotte presented a memorial from the Board of
School Commissioners, and forty-nine other citizens of Wor-
cester County, in relation to building and repairing School
Houses in said county, and for other purposes ;
Which was read and referred to Committee on Education.
Mr. Steiner presented a petition from Daniel P. Sayler, and
one hundred other citizens of Frederick county, Maryland,
praying the passage of a law exempting members of the
German Baptist Cuurch from serving as Jurors.
Mr. Davis, of Charles, presented a petition from Joseph
H. Mattingly and others, praying an increase of pay to
Messengers and Bailiffs of Circuit Courts ;
Which were read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.
Mr. Clarke presented a petition from Samuel Scribner, John
T. Ford, and others, for the location of a square of ground
in Baltimore County for public grounds ;
Which was read and referred to Baltimore county delega-
tion.
Mr. Horsey presented a petition from George Wales, for the
payment of $210, with interest, erroneously paid into the
Treasury ;
Which was road and referred to the Committee on Claims.
On motion of Mr. Evans,
Ordered, That the Select Committee on the Penitentiary
be instructed to enquire into the propriety of so amending the
Penal Law as to provide for the shortening the terms of con-
finement of convicts, on account of good behavior during
their confinement in the said Penitentiary.
On motion of Mr. Ford,
Ordered, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Baltimore
county is requested to inform this House of the condition of
the Burnt Records of said county, if any of the lost deeds or
instruments of writing have been presented to his office or
discovered since the last commission ceased, and if, in his
judgment, they can be restored, and what legislation, if any,
is necessay to complete the same.
On motion of Mr. McCulley,
Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instruct-
ed to inquire into the expediency of so altering the existing
law, relating to the sales of real estate of intestates, as to
strike out the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, the limit, as
now fixed, and report by bill or otherwise.
