The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.
The Speaker announced the following Special Committee
on the subject of a building for State purposes in the city of
Baltimore, under the order passed on motion of Mr Nicolai :
Messrs. Israel, Coleman, Gordy, King and Criswell.
Also the following Special Committe.e on the subject of the
Maryland Penitentiary, under the same order : Messrs.
Neilson, Welch, Hooper, Nicolai and Bamford.
Mr. Ford presented a petition from John G. Wade and
thirty-six other citizens of Baltimore County, in regard to
the Washington Turnpike Road and the bridge over Gwynn's
Fall's ;
Which was read and referred to the delegations from Bal-
timore County and the third Legislative District of Baltimore
city.
Mr. Knott presented a memorial from a committee of the
Board of Control and Review of Assessments, praying for an
extension of time of their session, and providing for an ad-
ditional Clerk for the third Assessment District of Baltimore
city ;
Which was read and referred to Committee on Ways and
Means.
Mr. Neilson presented the application of William Price
for compensation for legal services rendered the State.
Also, petition from James W. O'Hara, that the interest
of the State and the School Commissioners of Baltimore
city in the personal estate of James O'Hara, late of Baltimore
city, deceased, be released to his only son ;
Which was read and referred to Committee on Claims.
