passed to prevent the whipping and thrashing of the creeks
and coves, for the purpose of driving fish into gill nets, &c.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Beck, Neale and
Lindsey.

Mr. Ford presented a memorial from the President and Di-
rectors of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, re-
garding proposed modification in the charter of the Balti-
more and Potomac Railroad Company.

Mr. Ford moved to refer said petition to Committee on
Corporations.

Mr. Calvert moved to strike out the word "Corporations,"
and insert "Internal Improvements."

Decided in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Carmichael 500 copies of the memorial
was ordered to be printed.

Mr. Knott, presented a petition from Lewis Mayer, for
the purchase by the State of a number of copies of the Digest
of Decisions of the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of
the United States, construing the statutes of Maryland;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judi-
ciary.

Mr. Boswell presented a petition from Thomas A. Ken-
nard for compensation as clerk in the Superior Court of Bal-
timore city;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Morgan presented a petition from the legisters of St.
Mary's county, asking that a law rnay be passed allowing
the Commissioners of said county to levy a sum of money on
the assessable property of the said county for their relief;

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Morgan, Button,
and Hall.

Mr. Pitts presented a petition from Z. P. Henry, C. L. Wil-
liams and ninety-eight other citizens of the town of Berlin,
Worcester County, praying for an act of incorporation for
said town;

Which was read and referred to Worcester County delega-
tion.

On motion of Mr. Nicolai,

Ordered, That the special committees on the subject of the
Maryland Penitentiary and on the subject of a building for
State purposes in the city of Baltimore, referred to in the re-
port of the committee distributing the subjects considered in
