entered upon the Journal that he would have voted in the
affirmative on said resolutions.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Colored Population be
authorized to enquire into the expediency and to report to this
House a bill for the regulation and enforcement of contracts
of hire or other dealings entered into between the white citi-'
zens and negroes of this State.

Ordered also, That the said committee enquire into the ex-
pediency and report a bill for preventing the carrying, using
and displaying of guns or other offensive weapons in public
by the negroes of this State.

On motion of Mr. Williams,

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that if Mr.
Hall, of Anne Arundel county, had been present yesterday,
he would have voted for the resolutions endorsing the course
of President Johnson and Governor Swann.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes-
sage :

BY THE SENATE,

January 7th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We concur in your message proposing the appointment of
Joint Committee on so much of the Governor's Message as
relates to an Executive Mansion, and name on the part of
the Senate Messrs. Compton, Mackall, Waters and Ohr, to
join the gentlemen appointed by your Honorable Body.

Secretary.
On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be and
they are hereby requested to report to this House what further
legislation, (if any,) is necessary to prevent the profanation
of the Lord's day, commonly called Sunday, by gunning,
fishing, fowling, hunting with dog or gun, or unlawful
pastimes or recreations, or otherwise violating the sanctity of
said day.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be and they
are hereby requested to report to this House a bill amendatory
of Article 51 of Code of Public General Laws relating to Jus-
tices of the Peace; enlarging and extending their jurisdiction
