Laws of the State, and to report by bill or otherwise.

Mr. McCulloh submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the testimony in the contested election cases
from Allegany county be now closed.

Mr. Gilpin moved to amend by inserting after the words
"Allegany county" the words "on the 20th day of Janu-
ary, instant."

Mr. Kuott submitted the following amendment:

"That the testimony be closed by the 9th January, and that
the Committee on Elections be requested to report to this
House by the 11th inst."

On motion of Mr. Ford,
The subject was laid on the table.
On motion of Mr. Nicolai,

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that Mr.
Clarke, of Baltimore county, is absent from indisposition in
his family.

Mr. Morgan submitted the following order :

Ordered that George Popham be appointed Porter to the
Committee rooms of this House ;

Laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Neilson,

Leave was granted the Committee on the Judiciary to
report a bill to provide for the speedy hearing, by the Court
of Appeals, of the case of State Board of Education versus
The School Commissioners of Baltimore city.

On motion of Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted the Baltimore County Delegation to
report a bill to provide a Harbor Police for Baltimore city.

Also, leave was granted the Committee on Education to
report a bill to provide for a system of Public Night Schools
throughout the State.

On motion of Mr. Smith,

Leave was granted the Committee on the Judiciary to
report a bill repealing sectious 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
11, 12 of Article 45 of the Public General Laws of the State
of Maryland entitled, "Husband and Wife," and to enact a
substitute therefor.
