Mr. Sherry presented a petition from 178 citizens of Alle-
gany county, living contiguous to the National road, praying
the General Assembly to appropriate $7, 000 to pay the debt
with which it is burdened, as stated therein;
Mr. Tull presented a petition from over 2, 000 citizens of
Baltimore against the passage of the Sunday law;
Mr. Hoffman presented a petition from Robert Turner, P.
T. Wilson, R. Booth, and 574 other citizens of Baltimore in
favor of the Sunday law;
Mr. Mittag presented a petition from over 600 citizens of
Baltimore city against the passage of the Sunday law;
Mr. Poteet presented, a petition from over 500 citizens of
Baltimore against the passage of the Sunday law;
Which were severally read and referred to the committee
on Ways and Means.
Mr. Soper presented a petition from Tucker, Smith & Co.,
Jacob Barron, Henry D. Harvey, and forty-four others
against the passage of a law converting the corporation of
Baltimore into a Fire Insurance company, with power to levy
a Fire tax;
The Speaker laid before the House a petition from A. S.
Reese, and others against the passage of a law empowering
the Mayor and Council of Baltimore to levy a Fire Insurance
tax;
Mr. Hynes presented a petition from E. W. Robinson, and
others against the proposed tax for insurance in the City of
Baltimore;
Winch were severally read and referred to the Baltimore city
delegation.
Mr. Stewart presented a petition from diaries Ridgely and
32 other citizens of the third election district of Howard coun-
ty, praying the passage of a law authorizing the. Commission-
ers of!' said county to levy a sum of money to build a new
school house in said district;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Educa-
tion.
Mr. Pilkington presented a petition from colored citizens
of Baltimore praying for the right of suffrage and the right
of testifying in courts of justice;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Colored
Population.
