Mr. Rinehart, submitted the following amendment:
Line 7, strike oufc "three," and insert "five;"
Which was rejected.
Mr. Watkins, submitted the following amendment;
Strike out the words "over three miles," in line 7;
Which was rejected.
Mr. Silver submitted the following amendment:
Strike out all after the word "court" in the 8th line;
Decided in the affirmative.
Mr. Roberts submitted the following amendment:
Strike out all after the word "duty" in the Gth line, in
the first section;
Decided in the anirmativc.
Mr. Fawcett submittei the following amendment:
In line 5, strike out "ono dollar and fifty cents," and in-
sert "two dollars;"
Decided in the negative;
The bill was then read the second time, and ordered to be
engrossed for a third reading.
Mr. Smith, of Allegany, from a Select Committee, report-
ed unfavorably Senate hill, entitled, An Act for the pro-
motion of temperance and good morals;
Which was read the second time.
On motion of Mr. Lee,
The House took up for consideration the Report, of the
committee on Elections, in the contested case of Harwood
vs. Gainbrill;
The question being on the adoption of the following reso-
lution submitted by a majority of the committee, to-wit:
Besolved, That Sprigg IIarwood was not duly elected
Clerk of the Circuit Court of Anne Arundel county, at the
election held in November, 1865, he having been ineligible to
said office under section sixteen, of article three of the Con-
stitution of Maryland.
.Resolved, That George E. Gatnbrill, having received the
highest number of legal votes cast for any duly qualified
candidate for Clerk of the Circuit court of Anne Arundel
