150 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 24, Mr. Mittag presented a memorial from the Mayor and City Council of Hagerstown, asking for an increase of the said town and also of the bond of the Collector of Taxes of said town; "Which was read and referred to the Washington county delegation. Mr. Hoffman presented a memorial from Robert Wylie and. others in reference to opening county roads; Which was read and referred to the committee on Roads and Highways. Mr. "Willis submitted the following order: Ordered, That the Speaker of this House inform its mem- bers why Jefferson Davis, confined at Fortress Monroe, has not been tried and hung for treason. Mr. Willis moved that the order be referred to the commit- tee on Federal Relations. Mr. Silver offered an amendment, referring the order to the committee on Expiring Laws; Which was decided in the negative. Mr. Calvert moved that the order be laid upon the table; Which was decided in the negative. Mr. Watkins moved that the order be referred to the Caro- line county delegation; Which was decided in the negative. The question recurring on the motion of Mr. Willis, It was decided in the affirmative. Mr. Barron submitted the following order: "Ordered, That the Governor be requested to communicate to this House the names of all such persons as have applied, through the Executive, for the benefit of the amnesty pro- clamation of the President of the United States, with all the papers and documents bearing thereon; "Which was adopted. Mr. Poteet submitted the following order: Ordered, That 2, 000 copies of Mr. Wm. R. Cole's report upon the resources of Maryland be printed for the use of this House; 'Which, was adopted. |
