Mr. Smith, of Allegany, presented a petition from David
Thomas, Charles Mullany, Edward Barret, and eighty-five
others, praying the Legislature to pass an Act authorizing
the Commissioners of Allegany county to endorse and guar-
antee a portion of the first mortgage bonds of the Western
Maryland Railroad Company to an amount not exceeding five
hundred thousand dollars, for the purposes of the Road from
Hagerstown to Cumberland, and any further point in the
State;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Ways and
Means.
Mr. Miller, of Anne Arundel, presented a petition from
Thos. Ireland and 150 other citizens, of Annapolis, asking the
passage of an Act equalizing the bounties hitherto paid by
the State to the volunteer soldiery, so that the veterans of
1861 and '62 may be placed on the same footing as those who
entered at a later period;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Whys;
and Means.
Mr Kirk presented a petition from Job Haines, in behalf
of John Quigley, late a member of Battery B, 1st Maryland
Light Artillery, for State bounty;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Claims.
Mr. Hazen presented a petition from Johns Hopkins, Kirk-
land Chase and others to amend certain Public Local Laws;
Which was read and referred to the select committee pre-
viously appointed.
Mr. Keefer presented a petition from ninety-two ladies of
Mechanicstown, asking for the passage of a law prohibiting
the sale of spirituous liquors in that vicinity;
Mr. Smith, of Frederick, ..moved to lay said petition on the
table.
Decided in the negative.
On motion of Mr, Keefer,
The petition was referred to the Frederick county delega-
tion.
The Speaker presented a petition from John R. Biscal, of
Prince George's county, asking to have his acts as Magis-
trate legalized.
Which was read and referred to the committee on the Ju-
diciary.
Mr. Miller, of Washington, presented a petition of the
Bugers and commissioners of Williamsport, Washington
county, asking an amendment to the charter of said town;
