84 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 18, Mr. Harris submitted the following JOINT RESOLUTIONS. Whereas, There is still a large amount of unsettled business in the office of the Acting Assistant. Provost Marshal Gen- eral, for the State of Maryland; affecting the interests of the people of Maryland, and whereas, in the opinion of this General Assembly, the aforesaid business could lie much better settled by the said office than by any other department. Therefore, be it .Resolved ~by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Hon. E. M. Stanton, Secretary of War, be respectfully requested to continue the said office in operation, unless, in his judgment, the public service should otherwise require. Resolved, That a joint committee, to consist of two Mem- bers of the House of Delegates and one of the Senate, bo ap- pointed to wait on the Secretary of War, and communicate to him the action of this General Assembly in the premises. Which were read the first time, On motion of Mr. Harris, The rules were suspended, the resolutions read the second time and passed by yeas and nays, as follow:
