82 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 18, Leave was granted to Washington county delegation to in- troduce a bill to reimburse William Brashares and fifty other loyal boatmen upon the Cheaspeake and Ohio Canal, whose boats were burnt in retaliation for the boats that were burnt by the Union forces upon the James River Canal. Also, leave was granted the Washington county delegation to report a bill to reimburse William M. Cronise and fifty other loyal citizens whose property was burnt and otherwise destroyed, from the fact that they and their sons were in the Army of the United States, fighting for their country. . On motion of Mr. Angel, Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to report a bill to repeal Section first, of Article twenty-eight of the Code of Public General Laws relating to county Commission- ers, and re-enact the same with amendments. On motion of Mr. Poteet, Leave was granted the Baltimore county delegation to report a bill to amend Chapter twenty-three, passed at Jan- uary Session, 1864. On motion of Mr. Stewart, Leave was granted the Howard county delegation to re- port a bill to prohibit the sale of intoxicating drinks in the fifth election district of Howard county. On motion of Mr. Mules, Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to report a bill to authorize and direct the commissioners of Baltimore county to levy a tax upon the first election district of said county, to repay the Union Bank of Maryland moneys loaned by the commissioners of Public Free Schools for said district, by virtue of the Act of 1832, Chapter 287. On motion of Mr. Shaw, Leave was granted the committee on Claims to report a bill to appropriate a sum of money to p iv a claim of Richard M. Williams for legal services rendered the State. On motion of Mr. Hazen, Leave was granted to report a hill to repeal Sections 194, 196 and 197, of Article Four of the Cole of Public local Laws, and to re-enact the same with amendments. On motion of Mr. Wooden, Leave was granted the committee on the Judiciary to report a bill prohibiting the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors to any inmate of any Almshouse in this State. |
