The foregoing statistics have been compiled with great
care by ex-officers of the several Regiments before mentioned,
and are deemed more reliable than any data to be obtained
from the Adjutant General's Office of this State, from the
fact of their practical knowledge of the strength of their re-
spective commands, and the casualities from. the aforesaid
causes in the same. Likewise from the fact that the different
mustering officers in the service of the United States having
failed to furnish the Adjutant General's Office with the full
and complete data required.
When the amount due the heirs of deceased soldiers who
died while in the military service, who have removed, from the
State and who will never appear to claim the same, is de-*
ducted from the foregoing aggregate, it will reduce the amount
required at least one-eighth.
