Mr. Shaw presented a petition from the Western Mary-
land Railroad company;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Corpo
-ations.
Mr. Keefer presented a petition from 108 citizens of
Mechanicstown, Frederick county, for the passage of a law
to prohibit the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors in that
district;
Which was read and referred to the Frederick county dele-
gation.
Mr. Everhart presented a petition for an act to incorporate
the Mutual Fire Insurance company of Baltimore;
Which was read and referred to the Carroll county delega-
tion.
Mr. Slothower presented a petition from the President and
Directors of the Maryland Fire Insurance company, to be al-
lowed to increase its capital stock;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Corpora-
tions.
Also, a petition from the Charles Street Avenue company,
for an amendment of its charter;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Corpo-
rations.
Mr. Lee, of Baltimore city presented a petition from the
Orphans' Court of Baltimore city, asking the passage of a
law for the adoption of orphan children;
Which was read and referred to the select committee on
that subject.
Mr. Smith, of Frederick presented a petition from the
Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Urbana dis-
trict, Frederick county, to convey a certain lot of ground to
Jane Burgee;
Which was read and referred to the committee on the Ju-
diciary.
On motion of Mr. Silver,
Ordered, That each member of this House be furnished
with a copy of the Rules of Order of this House, and one copy
each of the Constitution.
The following message was received from the Executive;
Hon. Thomas Swann, at the hands of his Private Secretary,
Mr. Peter Leary.
