Determined in the negative. The question upon the amendment of Mr. Stephenson was determined in the negative by yeas and nays as follow: AFFIRMATIVE.
On motion of Mr. Tome, The bill was re-committed to the committee who reported it. On motion of Mr. Stephenson, The bill relating to Sheep and Dogs was ordered to be printed. The following communication was received from his Ex- cellency Governor Swann; STATE or MARYLAND, EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT, ANNAPOLIS, January 18, 1866. I beg leave most respectfully to hand you herewith certain documents relating to the Antietam National Cemetery, to- gether with a communication from Messrs. Shriver and Ful- ton, Trustees on the part of the State of Maryland. These papers will show what has been done in carrying out the law of the State in reference to that work. The object of the State of Maryland appears to have been to tax herself with the purchase of the grounds in the preparation of the Cemetery for the reception of the remains of the gallant men, |
