JOINT RESOLUTIONS. 877

by his authority; also for the payment of all
claims for Bounty which were prepared and au-
thenticated according to the forms prescribed by
the late Comptroller, and filed in his office on or
before the first day of June last, and for which no
conflicting claims have been presented.


No. 14.


Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That we recognize in George Peabody, Esq., a
venerable and eminently former citizen of Mary-
land, the embodyment of uprightness and noble
charity, and by his disinterested benevolence in
the munificent donations he has made to the city
of Baltimore, and to the Southern States, lor the
advancement of science, arts, and the general dif-
fusion of knowledge, he merits the unqualified
expressions of our gratitude, and the most pro-
found admiration of his unsurpassed liberality,
and of his efforts in the cause of education for the
elevation of his fellow men.
Resolved, That the Governor be hereby request-
ed to forward a copy of these resolutions to Mr.
Peabody.

Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the application of John M. Walker, for the
release of his securities on his official bond, as late
Notary Public of Baltimore City, be referred to the
Comptroller and Treasurer, and they are hereby
empowered to settle his accounts and give a final
