159 Gravener (one of the Registers,) said, you must give two loyal men for your security for your loyaltyship; then I told him I should do no such thing, that they could cheat me out of only a few years if I didn't get to vote; they said no more to me; but I spoke to Mr. Holton, before I left, I said to the Registers enquire of my neighbors about me; I said to Mr. Molten, I wish a word with you; I want to know what objections you have to me, said he, any person that is not for us is against us; he knew well I was a Democrat. 3d. A, I did not vote, came out to vote, did not vote because I was not registered, would have voted for Franklin. 4th. Waived. Cross-Examination : Q. Was or not the question alluded to in your examina- tion in chief in this form, "were you in favor of furnishing money and men to put down the Rebellion ? A, I think it was something like that; I replied I was not willing for them to have me; I was in favor of money and men, for all that wanted to go and for those who wanted to spend their money. (The contestant object as not a proper answer to the last clause of the above reply.) 1st. A.
