154 Thomas Robertson, a witness produced on behalf of claim- ant, being duly sworn, answers and says to the general in- terrogatories: To the first interrogatory: A. 50 years; with the exception of about two years and a half I lived in Dorchester; been a voter for 25 years, and risided in 1865 in Quantico district. 2d. A. I did apply. Mr. Pusey, one of the Registers, asked me if I would take the oath? I took it, and answered the questions satisfactorily, so tar as I know. I saw, when the list of qualified voters was published, that my name was missing. On the first day of sitting for review, I went to them to know what charge they had against me. Mr. Mills, one of the Registers, told me that the had heard me say I did not think I could take the oath. 1 saw Mr. Pusey, also a Register, who was about to leave. I stated the case to him, and he told me he did not see why I could not be a legal voter from the charge. I insisted he should call him, Mr. Mills, as a witnesss against me. He (Mr. Mills) stated the case to Mr. Pusey, and Mr. Pusey told. him that he could not be with Mr. Mills and Mr. Wilson (Registers both), because he had to go to the burial of his mother-in-law; but lie could not see why I could not be a legal voter if that was all the charge against me. They said that was all the charge against me. Was not registered as a qualified voter. 3d. A. [ did not vote; would have voted for Mr. Franklin, 4th. Waived. Cross-examination: To the first interrogatory: A. I answered all the questions satisfactorily, as I sup- posed, to the Registers, and I don't feel disposed to answer any more. 2d: A. I do not feel disposed to answer any more questions. 3d: A. I decline to answer, 4th: A. Don't feel disposed to answer. oth: A. Don't feel disposed to answer. During the war have or not your sympathies been with those in rebellion against the United States? |
