131 only charge I have heard preferred against me except that I voted for George B. McClellan. 3d. Did not vote; didn't offer because I knew I was not, registered, and it was useless; would have voted for Franklin. 4th. Waived. Special interrogatories: 1st. Until your support of George B. McClellan, had you ever supported the Democratic party? A. Never, only for local offices. 2d. Until then had you or not sustained Mr, Lincoln? A. I had to the best of my ability until the occurrence referred to. Cross-examination. 1st. In the examination in chief have you used the words of Mr. Jacob White in stating the charge that had been made against you? A. To the best of my knowledge those were the words. The above has been read to me and is correct. C. F. DASHIELL. Attested to and written by Henry Page, Clerk. . R. Emory Ennis a witness produced on behalf of claimant being duly sworn, answers and says : To the first interrogatory: A. Twenty-two years; been a voter one year; in 1865 resided in Ninth election district, and in my twenty-third year. 2d. Did apply, was confronted with no witness, was noti- fied of no charge, was not among the published voters on the last. day for review, went before the registers and they told me there was a charge against me but would not tell me what it was, that I could find it out by going to Princess Anne, at last Mr. Collins, their clerk, told me Americus V. Dashiell had appeared against me and testified against me; Mr. Dashiell told me that he had. told the registers that I used to laugh, at the Yankees running from Bull Run; took the oath and answered the questions, and two of the Re- gisters said they were satisfied. |
