113 John S. Sudler, a witness on the part of the claimant being duly sworn, answers and says: 1st. Where do you reside? A. In Potato Neck District, No. II. 2d. Were .you or not examined before the Board of Regis- tration of that district, upon the question of the right to registration as a qualified voter of Francis M. K. Boggs? If yea, state what was your testimony. A. I was summoned before the Board, I didn't know what for. I was asked if I had had any conversation with Francis Boggs on the war? I told them I had, and we differed, but I never heard Mr. Boggs say any thing I considered disloyal. That was the whole of my testimony to the Board, as well as I can remember. They were the exact words. Cross-Examination : 1st. Did you, upon that occasion, or any other, when you were present before the said officers of Registration, observe anything- in their conduct which would lead you to suspect or doubt the honesty, impartiality and fidelity of said officers in the discharge of their official duties. A. No, sir; I did not. The above has been read read to me and is correct. JOHN S. SUDLER. Attested to and written by Henry Page, Clerk. George W. Scott, a witness produced on behalf of claim- ant, being duly sworn, answers and says : 1st. A. Twenty-three years; been a voter two years; resided in 1865 in Fourth Election District. 2d. A. I did apply; was notified of no charge; was confronted with no witnesses; took the oath and answered the questions asked me. Mr. McCoy, one of the Registers, asked me if I rejoiced at the downfall of Fort Sumter. Said I did not. 10 |
