107 A. I was not. Q. Did you. or not subsequently re-appear before the offi- cers of Registration in Princess Anne district, and urge a re- consideration of your case; if yea, what arguments did you use to secure Registration, and with what result, state fully? A. I did so appear; I stated to them I thought it was a hard case I was disfranchized, that I didn't conceive I had done anything deserving it. I stated to them I believed they meant, to do right and all I. wanted was justice at their hands. Among other reasons, I urged I had always been a Union man and voted with them. That was about the substance of what passed I, I can't swear positively to everything that took place. The clerk of the county told me I was register- ed as a voter. I did not see the list. Voted lor J. R. Franklin at the election. Cross-examination waived. The above has been read to me and is correct. WM. H. SMITH. Attested to and written by Henry Page, Clerk. David Schockley, a witness produced for the Claimant, dicing duly sworn, answers and says: 1st. In what district do you reside ? A. In the fourth. 2d. Who were the officers of Registration in that dis- trict ? A. H. C. McCoy, Richard D. Wallace and myself. 3d. Before whom did you take the oath as Registration officer ? A. Before Michael Webster, a Justice of the Peace, in and for Somerset county. 4th. Which other of the Registration officers took the oath besides yourself ? |
