89 Nathan J. Lankford, a witness produced for the claimant, being duly sworn answers and says: 1st: A. 59 years; been a voter 38 years; resided in 1865 in Dames Quarter district, the 4th election district. 2d: A. Was notified of no charge; was confronted with no witnesses; took the oath; the registers asked me very few questions, they said they would not have asked me any, but the law compelled them; I was published as a legal voter. 3d: A. I did not vote, because I saw at the polls my name on a list of disfranchised voters; went to the judges and they told me I was not on the list of qualified voters; I did not of- fer to vote because my name was not on the list of qualified voters; I would have voted for Mr. Franklin. 4th: Waived. Cross-Examination: To the first cross-interrogatory:* A. Not that I recollect of. 2d: A. No sir; because I did not hear of it until a good while after it was done. 3d: A. No sir. 4th: A. No sir; because I never was gratified at the triumph of none. 5th: A. I don't know that I ever have; I have always wished the Union to remain together. The above has been read to me and is correct.
