Did you hear of the first battle of Bull Run, and where were you then? A. I did hear of it—was at home. Did you feel or express any regret at the defeat of the Fed- eral forces at that battle? A. No, sir. Have you felt or expressed any regret at the defeat of the Federal forces at any time during the war? A. I have At what battle? A. Do not recollect. Did you feel or express any regret at the fall of Fort Sum- ter? A. Cannot say now; is off my mind. Did you feel or express any gratification for the capture of Vicksburg ? A.
