1st.
A. I have resided in Somerset county nearly 24 years.
Have been a voter nearly three years. In Trappe district, I
.resided, during the year 1865.
2nd.
A, I did so apply; "was notified, of no charge; took the re-
quired oath, and answered all the questions they asked, sat-
isfactorily. Then Mr. Bounds, one of the officers of Regis-
tration asked me if I would give a Southern soldier some-
thing to eat? Said I would, or any other hungry man who
came to my house. He wanted to know if I would have vo-
ted for Mr. Henry? I said I did not vote at all at that time,
but I expected if I had have voted, I would have voted, for
Air. Henry, and that is what turned me down.
.3rd,
A. I did not vote because I wasn't registered. I offered
It but they said I wasn't registered; I would have voted for
John R. Franklin had I been permitted tu vote.
4th. Waived as to this witness.
Cross-examination:
Question. Of your own knowledge do you know that there
wsa not any other cause of disqualification than those you
have mentioned in your direct examination, at any time be-
fore the officers of Registration of your district, and. upon
which they acted?
Answer. No other. One of the officers told me that was
all he had against me, hadn't it been fir that he would have
registered me.

Richard A. Snelling, a witness produced on the part of
John R, Franklin, being duly sworn, answers and says:
1st.
A. Have resided in Somerset county nearly 49 years; have
been a voter over 20 years in said county; resided in 1865 in
