65th. Why was Christopher C. Johnson disfranchised?
A. I do "not recollect.
66th. Who was witness against Henry King, and what
was his testimony?
A. Peter McDaniel. He said he had heard Mr. King re-
joice at the victories of the South; he said he was there stack-
ing wheat for Mr. King; King's wife had been to Newtown,
and heard of some victory of the South; he (King) went to
the wheat yard rejoicing, and said, "Uncle Peter, must I
shout?" with other expressions similar.
67th. Why was not John L. Lankford registered?
A. From his own statements. I don't recollect; what those
statements were; and his answering the questions in his own
way so that they were not satisfactory.
68th. In reply to a question which you propounded to him,
"Have you ever sympathized with the South?" did he not
say that his sympathies were with the suffering on both
sides?
A. I do not recollect.
69th. You stated that you inquired if the applicant had
ever hurrahed for Jeff Davis: if lie said, "Yes," did you
consider that a cause of disqualification?
A. I should suppose it wag, if in reality.
70th. Did you ever inquire whether such applicant had
done so in fun when he was sober, or when he was drunk,
so as to ascertain whether it was in reality?
A. I did not.
71st. Do you recollect why you disqualified Littleton D.
Maddux?
A. I do not.
72d. Do you remember the cause of disqualification of
Littleton H. Pusey?
A. I do not.
73d. Why was George T. Parsons disqualified?
A. From his own statements partially.
74th. State them if you can?
A. I asked him several questions, which bo answered. I
asked him if lie had ever hurrahed for Jeff Davis ? He
said he had. I turned around to my colleagues, and asked
them if they were satisfied? if not, to swear me. I had
heard him talk a great deal. They said they were satisfied.
