Franklin, Claimant. | cial Circuit of Maryland, by Thomas A. Spence. To general interrogatories filed by T. A. Spence January 24th, 1866: John L. Porter, a witness of lawful age, produced upon behalf of Contestant, being duly sworn, deposes and says : To the first interrogatory : , I was in the eighth election district. To the second interrogatory : I did, sir. To the third interrogatory : I did, sir. To the fourth interrogatory : I did not, sir. To the fifth interrogatory: To the best of my knowledge, I did, sir. Cross-examined by Claimant.: Question 1st. Before whom did you take the oath of your office ? Answer. Before Mr Edward F. Duer, a Justice of the Peace. 2d. Who were your colleagues? A. Mr. John B. Melville and Purnell H. Dryden. 3d. Where they with you when you took the oath of office, and did they take the same oath? A. They did at. the same time. 4th. Did you enter on the boo'k of' registration of your dis- trict, as disqualified or disloyal, the name of any person or persons who did not apply for registration ? A. I am not positive about that, I think we did not, that we entered ' they did not apply" on the books. 5th. Did you make a full list of all the names of persons in your district theretofore entitled to vote, according to the poll book of previous elections, and the best; information you could get, by which to proceed with your duties? A. We did not have the poll books We made a full list according to the other information which we could get. Became for poll books, but the office was closed, ,and I could not get them. |
