COMPANY E. 5th REGT, N. Y. V. CAVALRY.
Mid. Mil. Div. via Washington, D. C.,
WINCHESTER, VA., May 28th, 1865.
Mr. W.. R. COLE,
Sir:—I would like to have you send me, your descriptive
pamphlet and circulars, of the soil, climate and productions,
and the. different prices of land to letters, throughout the
State of Maryland; tor if I should be lucky enough to get out
of the service tins Summer, I should like to buy me a farm in
your State rather than go West, if I can do as well. Please
send them as soon as you get this, and direct as this is
headed. And oblige,
Your humble friend,
GEORGE W. LAMB.
OFFICE OF IVES, BEECHER & Co.,
No. 98, FRONT ST.,
New York, May 31, 1865.
MR. W. R. COLE,
Dear,Sir:—I am desirous of purchasing a farm in Mary-
land of about 300 or 400 acres, have been on a wheat or
grain farm for 25 years, in the western part of the State of
New York. If the book does not contain a map of (with the
counties described,) the State, please tell me if one can be ob-
tained in this city.
Respectfully, yours,
J ORS McFARLAN,
PORTER, May 23, 1865.
Dear Sir:—Having had an idea for sometime of going
west or South to locate, and seeing an advertisement in the
State Press to address you for information, I have taken this
opportunity of addressing you, hoping that I shall get the
desired information. 1 would like to have you answer me by
letter if fruit grows out in your State, such as apples, pears
and peaches and the like, and if they grow potatoes, and any
other information that you think that I may need. I am a
farmer by birth and education, and I would, like to get me a
home out West or South, and there are a good many young
enterprising men that would like to go with me if it be safe
for us to come out to your State at present.
Now I guess you will think I am a Yankee, and you will
think about right, for a Yankee always has to ask a good
many questions. ^
Yours truly,
JOHN BRADEEN,
Porter, Oxford county, Maine.
