1866.] OF THE SENATE, 11 On motion of Mr. Earle, Leave was granted Messrs. Earle, Vickers and Trail to report a bill to enfranchise J. West Thompson and restore him to all his rights of citizenship. On motion of Mr. Tome, The order submitted by Mr. Ohr, relating to the appoint- ment of a Committee Clerk was taken up. Mr. Tome moved to strike out the name of H. Swartz- enwelder and insert W. G. Purnell. Mr. Lansdale moved to postpone the question until to- morrow one o'clock; Determined in the negative, by yeas and nays as follow: AFFIRMATIVE.
NEGATIVE
On motion of Mr. Ohr, The Senate proceeded to ballot for Committee Clerk. Mr. Tome nominated W. G. Purnell, of Cecil. The Chair appointed Messrs. Lansdale and Frazier tellers, who reported that there had been fifteen votes cast, of which H. Swartzwelder received seven; W. G. Purnell seven; and W. H. Cochran one. There having been no election, the Senate proceeded to a second ballot. Messrs. Lansdale and Frazier, tellers, reported that there had been eleven votes cast, of which W. G. Purnell received ten, and Wardwell one; Whereupon it was declared that W. G. Purnell was elected Committee Clerk—who appeared, qualified and entered upon the discharge of his duties. On motion of Mr. Earle, Leave was granted Messrs. Earle, Vickers and McMaster to report a bill to authorize and empower the County Com- missioners of Queen Anne's county to levy a tax of two hun- dred and fifty dollars on said county to purchase county maps of a certain J. G. Strong, who is now preparing for publica- tion a map of that county. The Senate adjourned. |
