(55) Their Maties The Indictment following being Read. the said Violetta agt. Confesseth her selfe guilty of the same - - - - - - Violetta. Warron - - - - - - and puts her selfe upon the Court Somerset County Ssc. the Jurors for their Maties being Sworne upon the holy Evangelists at a Grand Jury held for the body of this County doe present and find, that Violetta: Warren the Wife of Richard Warron of this County planter hath most wickedly, sinfully and shamefully Comitted Adultory and by the wicked instigations of the divel hath prostitute her body to the lust of George Latcham of this County planter, Notwithstanding of her Sollemne vows and matrimonial engagements to Gods dishonour, Scandall and evill example of all the good people of this Province, Wherefore their Maties. Attorney craves judgment agt the said Violetta according in that Case made & provided &c. James: Sangster Clk Indt. Which judgment of Court is Corporall Punishment. viz. twenty lashes upon Bare back well laid on, which by the Sub sheriffe was Executed at ye whimp post Order was likewise given like wise for her good behaviour. and thereupon came Richard: Warren and Richard: Whaley and was Security and Warren bound for Court Charges. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Their. Maties The Indictment being read, to which the said Latcham agt. Pleads not guilty and for tryall put himselfe upon the George Latcham Country. viz the Jury. - - - - - - - - - - - Somerset County Ssc The Jurors for their Maties. being sworn upon the holy Evangelists at a grand Jury held for the body of this County, doe present and find that George Latcham of this County Planter, hath most wickedly, Sinfully and shamefully & shamefully Comitted that heinous and abominable Sin of Adultery, Instigated by the Divell did seduce and allure, Violetta: Warren, Wife of Richard: Warren from of the high way into the woods near the Bridge by Buckingham and their tempt and cause the sd Violetta to prostitute her body to her lust and uncleanness, thereby dishonouring God, giving scandall and evill example to the good people of this Province therefore their Maties. Attorney Craves judgmt. may be entered agt. the sd Offender. according to Law: James. Sangster Clk Indt. And the aforesd Jury viz William Piper. Samuel: Collins Mearcy: ffountain. Thomas Rolph. Thomas: Tull. John: Strawbridge. George Bossman: Myles Grey. Thomas Holbrook William: Harris. William: Allexander. William. Round. all being legally impanned & sworn do retourne their verdict. viz. Wee the Jurors find George: Latcham not guilty. Nevertheless the Court Orders that the said Latcham find Security for his good behaviour. and there upon came John ffrancklin and William Round, and by Recogn.z became bound in 5,. a peece, Latcham in 10,. sterling --- The Condition of wch Recognizance is such that if the said George Latcham be of his good behaviour and abearance to all their Maties. Liege people of this Province, that then this Recognizance to be voyd and of none effect otherwayes to be and remain in full power force & vertue. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Upon tryall and examiniation of the abovesd Violetta: Warren, some questions being asked the sd Violetta by the Court, what it is she said, the answer was made by Donam Olenman that she sd nothing, which being proved in Court yt she did answer, the Court ordered the sd Donam: be fined accordingly fifty pounds of tobacco for lying. |
