33 To the Worll. Court of Somerset County Your Petitioners humbly sheweth, That Whereas we the severall persons that are the subscribers doe dwell Some very near and some farther off from the Indian Towne and are very much damnifyed by the Indians our hoggs and horses and other Cattle. being daily killed and destroyed by them, not only in their Towne but likewise out of it, and not only when their Corne is on the ground but att all times when they find their hoggs to be fatt, and we likewise understand that they have a Law amongst them that if any Indian shall discover another Indians killing of hoggs he shall dye for it, so that wee find them to be all hogg Stealers by their Law, that is all consent to it. So that we your petioners having great cause to make complaint for So great damages as we dayly sustain by the loss of our hoggs and other cattle. which we doe not only Suspect But can prove by some of them coming home with arrews in their Sides, we therefore coming to this damage thought fitt to address our Selves to your Worships for relief that so we may enjoy our Stocks in peace and Saifty, and they as a broken people may be confined to fence in their Corne, So hoping you will be pleased to take it into your Serious considerations as in duty bound we shall ever pray. The Court requested the Petioners viz mr William Round and others to lett it be continued for some longer time &c. - - - - Somerset County ------ To the Worll their Matiers Justices of the Peace in Court Sitting The humble petion of Edmund Beauchamp Clerke to ye Court. humbly Sheweth That Whereas your Petioner being very lame, the Records kept at Capt. Coulbornes finding great inconvenience being at Such distance from my assistante humbly desires Order to remove the Records to mr Jno: West and as in duty bound shall pray &c. Edmund: Beauchamp. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Which above said Petion was at that time dened, but after granted Capt. Browne To theire Maties. Justices of the peace of the County Somerset & The humble petion of John: Lyme a poor Servant mr Jenkins departs. Most humbly sheweth unto your Worships. that your poor petioner. was Spirrited out of his native Country unknown to any of his friends and Shipped a board for this Country as a Servant for four years as then appeared by Indenture, which Indenture was by some deceitfull meanes or other taken from your petioner so your petioner was judged five months after Landing to Serve as Servant Seven years of which time yr petioner hath faithfully Served four years and humbly conceive he is to Serve no longer by reason of his Indentures. for that time, though lost yet your petioners Shipp mates. are alive which can prove the same. May it therefore please your Worships to call before you, your petioners Wittnesses to declare the trueth that your peteioner may be freed and as in duty bound your petioner. Ever pray &c. - - - - - - - - - - - - The Court having Considered the premisses, no Indentures appearing nor could be proved by any Evidences. Therefore have Ordered the abovesd Petioner.
