189 To him as another, asking her to show her Certificate after this he desired me to go to John Ellis his house to drink Cyder. I endeavoured to disswade him from the same, he urged me severall times, at last he was going by himselfe I stepped a litle way after him desireing him to come back again, and not go, but he still urged me to go with him whereupon I replyed, if you will come back with me in a short space, and lett this fowd cease, and have no more difference with your wife, I will go along with you, he replyed he would. I went with him, and in some time he came back with me, and I thought he would have made true his words, but coming home,(his wife sitting by the fire, he seemingly going to light his pipe, takes up a great brands end of fire, and went to heave it full upon his wife, whereupon I stept to him, and took it from him, and he drove her out of doors yt night &c. Maryland Somerset County Ssc. For as much as Mary the Wife of Teague: Riggen Senior of y aforesd County Labourer hath required Sureties of the Peace agt the sd Teague Riggen her husband & wth all hath taken her Corporall Oath before me that she required the same, not for any privat malice, hatred or evill will, but simply yt she is afraid of her life, or the hurting or maiming of her body &c. and whereas as well heretofore by a warrant for the like occasion he refuseing to put in good Securities for the peace, as now he still doth as well for his appearance before our Justices (for their Maties. at the next Court to be holden the second tuesday in november next ensueing as also that the said Teague shall in the mean time keep their Maties as well toward their Maties & towards all their leige People, and espetially towards her the said Mary, all which being no wayes complyed with but wilfully refuseth &c. These are therefore in their Maties Names. To the sheriffe of Somerset County aforesd to require you, as also strictly charge and comand that imediately you take the sd Teague Riggin into your Custody and him Saifly keep untill he shall willingly do the same and hereof you are not to fail as you will answer the Contrary &c. Given under my hand and seal this eleventh day of 8ber ano Dom 1690. in the second year of their Maties Reign &c. ffra Jenckins ? Sealed To mr Stephen Luffe high Sheriffe of Somerset County These. These are to impower ye Edward: Dickenson and John: Ellis Senior & in their Maties. Names you are hereby required in the absence of John: Waltom Constable that you convey the abovesd prisoner into the Custody of the above sd Sheriffe. as witness my hand the 11th. of otober. 1690 ---------- ffra. Teague Riggen Junior. and Edward Dickenson Labourers appeared before me One of their Maties Justices of the Peace for this County and acknowledged themselves to owe and stand justly indebted to their Maties the severall and respective Sums of moneys herein mentioned to witt Teague Riggin Senior the just Sum of fourty pounds Sterling money of England, and Teague Riggen Junior ye Sum of twenty pound of like sterling money, and Edward Dickenson the sum of twenty pounds of like Sterling money due to be leavyed on the goods and chattels & tenements of the sd Teague Riggen Senior Teague Riggen Junior & Edward: Dickenson or their Heirs, Execcutorrs or admrs. as witness their hands and Seals the day and year above said The Condicon of this Recognizance is Such that if the wthin bounden Teague Riggen Senr shall prsonally appear before their Maties Justices of the peace at ye next Court to be holden the for this County to answer to such matters as shall be objected agt him by Mary his wife within named to do and receive that wch. by the sd Court shall be then & there enjoyned him and that in the mean time, he do keep their Maties Peace towards their Maties & all their leige People and espetially towards the sd Mary his wife, that then this Recog to be voyd & of none effect Otherwayes to stand & be in full force power & vertue.
