August 13th. 1690 4th. Aug. 1690 (156) Wm: Woodland being Sworne saith that George Seaward said that he would stand in his owne defence and cutt of the leggs of any Majestrate or other Officer that should come to apprehend hims, and said he would so doe although he killd him, and in Order thereto whetted or Sharpned an Adds and Carried the same about him three dayes. Anne Woodland Swears that G. S. deluded her and her sonn to Run away with him and that there was a hogg and a halfe and four bushells wheat to be provided for the voyadge for biskett, That George Seaward told her he had hired John: Ellis to Carry him away, that he was to allow him a Bill about 1800. of either Phill: Lynes or Coll. Darnalls, which said Bill belongs to the Estate of Jonas Seaward Deced. - - - - - - - - Imbezleing the Papers and Raceing out Severall accots. Wm. Woodland Evidence. Onrigging the Sloop. Abuse of the Widdow Breach of the Sabbath} Wm Woodland and his wife Evidences. A Dantzick Case ownd by G:S: (as Indebted Imbezld Chargd) but pretended twas his owne. A Bill of Thomas: Everdens Owned by G: S: about 1500lb: tobacco. One Accot. Instanced to be Crost out or Raced, was Rich: Whartons. Evidence Wm: Woodland. That the sd George hath Ripped up and Sold and Embezled Oke planke from the Sloop that belongs to the Estate of his decd Brother and sold the same for drink, on Board Capt. Samuel: Paule. &c. That the sd George hath purloined Sold and made away for drinke as aforesd a Considerable quantity of Tarr formerly by his decd Brother provided for the triming and repair of the aforesd Sloop whereby she is all togeather unfurnished and uncapable of any imploy &c. Memorandum The ffeather Bed and the Blocks Packed up for the March Sam: Merchment & his wife and Archibald White Sworne agt the sd Seaward The aforesd George Seaward being Called to the Barr, where all the foregoing proceedings were fairly red before the said Seaward, who pleaded not guilty, and for his tryall, put himselfe upon a Jury, which Jury was duely impannelled and Sworne whose Names are as followeth. viz) John: Bossman: Lawrence Crawford William:Robbinson. John:Bowns, Alexander Thomas. Moses:ffainton. Robert:Polk. Ralph:Milbourne Samll.Shewell. John:Tarr. William:Bossman. Matthew:Scarbrough. who having heard the whole matter as also five Evidences Sworne agt the Seaward (viz) Samll. Merchmt. and his Wife, Archibald: White. Benjamin:Keizer & Wm: Woodland, goes forth to determine the same, the day following do bring in this following verdict (Viz.) Wee the Jurors finds George: Seaward guilty of fact and also guilty of Contempt of authority. Except the Charge of hogg stealing given by me John: Bossman. forem. --------- G:S: desired mr Lane might plead for him, which was denyed pr Court. Before which Verdict was returned, the sd George Seaward made his Escape and Run away and att the request of John:Ellis of this County Senior Hue & Cryes Issued forth after ye sd Seaward. Ordered by the Court that every man that Comes within the Barr unless called be fined - - - - - - - Came wthin the Barr not being Called were Capt. John:King. John:Webb. John:Strawbridge^Tho Tull John Renshaw John Johnson. Lodowick: Crawford.
