August 13th.1690 (154) You are also required to Sumons Margeret Seaward by vertue of the within warrt, to appear as an Evidence to the within Charge given as within by me ffra: Jenckins To John Walton Constable of Pocomoke hundred. These. Somerset County in Maryland Ss. // Whereas Complaint hath been made before us underwritten two of their Maties.Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid, by Margeret Seaward that one George Seaward of this County Carpenter hath felloniously taken away and defaced severall papers belonging to the Estate of Josias Seaward her late husband decd. and is now absenting himSelfe out of this County whereby the sd Widdow and Children of the said decd must inevitably come to ruin and hath also taken and carryed away severall Ropes and other things belonging to a certain sloop belonging to the sd Estate, and whereas we are these & Credibly informed that he hath not only comitted^ Severall other misdemeanors, but in despite to authority and in affront to Justice hath withstood the Constable of this hundred and hath with one Carpenter adge gon armed and swears to be the death of the sd Constable, Majestrate or any other pson that shall come to apprehend him - These are therefore in their Majesties Names to will and require as also strictly to Charge and Comand you that Imediatly upon sight hereof you raise such power as in your discretion you shall think Convenient and when so done to make diligent search after the sd George Seaward in the most suspected places within your hundred or within any susspected places within this County of Somerset and him having apprehended to bring before us underwritten there to answer to such things as shall be objected agt him as well on the behalf of their Majesties as of the said Margeret Seward Complainant as of any other person, for which this shall be your Suffitient warrant given under our hands and seals this third day of August in the second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord & Lady William and Mary King & Queen of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland defenders of the faith &c. and in the year of our Lord, One thousand Six hundred & ninety. To John: Walton Constable ffrancis Jenkins ? of Pocomoke hundred - - - } Edmund: Howard.} ? seald These Somerset County Ssc./ The Deposition of Benjamin Keizer aged about thirty two years or their abouts saith. That yesterday being the 11th of August 1690. he being at the house of William Woodlands did there see George Seaward alone with the said Woodlands Wife, who seemed to be very kind to the said Seaward so farr as to disgust her husband informith that the Widdow Tully who was present with them reproved Ann Woodland and told her that she would by her Carriage to George Seaward assure her husband of the truth of what was reported of concerning George Seaward and her Selfe, who answered that any one might have any thing of any of the Comissioners for a fee. And threatened her husband that if she were whipt for her misdemeanor this Court she would then after that See George Seaward at the least One or twice a week with Severall other impudent and audacious Carriadges, that the sd Deponant Reproved her, and said he did believe he should come in agt her him Selfe the next Court: that she reitterated the Comissioners would do any thing for a fee Severall times that divers wayes she brought it about to that effect &c. And that her Sonn Richard told the Deponant that he was Concluded to have you away with George Seaward and his Mother &c. --- August the 12th. 1690. then Benjamin Keizer made Oath to the truth of the above written upon the holy Evangelists before me ffrancis Jenkins Benj Keizer |
