And a bill, entitled, An act to empower the levy court of Harford county to assess and levy a sum of
money for the purpose therein mentioned, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December
" 21, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolution
and bills:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 27, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That all proceedings against Robert Long, and his securities, for the sum due
this state in purchases made by him of the property of the late Principio company, be suspended
until the next session of assembly.

A bill, entitled, An act to lay out and open a road from a place commonly called Bean-town to
Port-Tobacco, in Charles county, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 26, 1796:
" Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

" By the house of delegates, December 27, 1796:  Read the second time by especial order and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk."
A bill, entitled, An act authorising commissioners to survey, mark and bound, certain streets in
Beatty and Hawkins addition to George-town, in Montgomery county, and for other purposes therein
mentioned, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 16, 1796:  Read the first time

the resolution therein mentioned.
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 27, 1796.
        GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,
    IN hopes that the circumstances attending the case of John Smith Brookes can be explained to
your satisfaction, we must reiterate our request for a reconsideration.  We flatter ourselves you will
not consider us unnecessarily importunate in this respect, but will be satisfied that the sending back
of this resolution arises from a thorough conviction that your dissent, if insisted upon, may involve
the petitioner in ruin.
                                                            By order,                                        W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read.
    The clerk of the house of delegates returns the bill, entitled, An act to explain and amend the
thirty-third section of an act, entitled, An act for the more effectual paving the streets of Baltimore-town,
in Baltimore county, and for other purposes, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" December 9, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, December 27, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which said bill was ordered to be engrossed.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolution:
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 27, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That the governor of this state be requested to inform the executive of the commonwealth
of Virginia, that the important public business of this session of the general assembly of Maryland
has unavoidably induced a delay in acting upon the amendments proposed to be made to the
government of the United States by the legislature of that commonwealth, with assurances that they
will be taken up at the next session of our assembly, and considered with the respect due to the communications
of a sister state, and with all the attention due to subjects of such importance and
magnitude.
                                                            By order,                                        W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolutions:
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 27, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised to pay off and
discharge the principal and interest due on all certificates heretofore issued by the state of Maryland,
other than those distinguished as fraudulent ones, provided the same are brought into the treasury for
payment on or before the first day of July, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven.
