    Amendment proposed.  At the end of the bill add " This act to continue and be in force until
the first day of October, in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven, and until the end
of the next session of assembly which shall happen thereafter."

The senate adjourns until 5 o'clock.

    The senate met.
The senate adjourns until Monday morning 9 o'clock.

M    O    N    D    A    Y,    December 26, 1796.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on Saturday.  The proceedings of Saturday
were read.
    The resolution in favour of Philip Casson, the resolution in favour of Alexander Contee Hanson,
the bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Dorchester county to assess and
levy a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned, the bill, entitled, A further supplement to
an act, entitled, An act to lay out several turnpike roads in Baltimore county, and for other purposes,
with the amendments thereto, the bill, entitled, An act to incorporate a company for building a
bridge over Jones's Falls, in Baltimore-town, the bill, entitled, An act to provide for the payment of
costs of suits to which the state may be a party, the resolution in favour of Benjamin Hutcheson, and
the bill, entitled, An act to increase the allowance of the justices of the orphans courts, the commissioners
of the tax, and the clerk to the commissioners, in the several counties of this state, with
the amendments thereto, were sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolution:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 26, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed to
pay to Samuel Peterson Wallace, of Cæcil county, twenty-six pounds five shillings and six-pence,
being for caution and improvement money paid to the treasurer on a tract of land in said county
called Minor's Lot, which land is found to be in Talbot's manor.
                                                            By order,                                        W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following message:
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 26, 1796.
        GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,
    WE are disposed to terminate the present session as early as it is practicable to act on the public
business now before us.  We hope it may be affected on Thursday, and we beg leave to suggest,
that your acting on the bill for the per diem allowance, by enabling the committee of claims to close
the journal of accounts, will greatly accelerate that desirable object.
                                                            By order,                                        W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read.
The senate adjourns until 5 o'clock.

P  O  S  T    M  E  R  I  D  I  E  M.

    The senate met.
    The bill, entitled, An act to ascertain the allowance of the members of the general assembly,
electors of senate, and electors of president and vice-president of the United States, was read the
second time and will pass, and was sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    On motion, ORDERED, That the order of this day be postponed until to-morrow.
    The resolution in favour of Robert Ramsey was read the second time and assented to.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act to
erect Baltimore-town, in Baltimore county, into a city, and to incorporate the inhabitants thereof,
thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 3, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to
" lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, December 26, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
The senate adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

T    U    E    S    D    A    Y, December 27, 1796.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on yesterday.  The proceedings of yesterday
were read.
    THe clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act to
empower the levy court of Anne-Arundel county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose
therein mentioned, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December 22, 1796:  Read the first
" time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, December 27, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                                      W.  HARWOOD, clk."
