32            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1796.

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 17, 1796.

    Whereas Gabriel Peterson Van-Horn did, on the twenty-second day of August, seventeen hundred
and ninety-three, pay to the state of Maryland the sum of ninety pounds nineteen shillings and
nine-pence in specie, state certificates and deferred stock, on his bond to the said state given for lands
purchased of the late intendant lying in the reserves of Baltimore county, to which the state can
give no title; therefore, RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore refund to the said
Van-Horn the said sum of eighty-five pounds eight shillings and six-pence current money, with interest
due thereon from the said twenty-second day of August, seventeen hundred and ninety-three,
till this time.

Which said resolutions were severally read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The honourable John Campbell, Esquire, has leave of absence until Tuesday next.
    The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of the poor of Washington county, was read the second
time and will pass with the proposed amendments.
    Amendments proposed.  In the 10th line of the 6th page strike out the word "think" and insert
the word "appear."  At the end of the 13th line of the 22d page insert the words " as may be."
In the last line of the bill strike out the words " the above recited" and insert the word "this."
    The bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An act to erect a town in Queen-Anne's
county, with the amendments thereto, the bill, entitled, An act for establishing a company for opening
and extending the navigation of the river Pocomoke, with the amendments thereto, and the resolution
granting a loan to the city of Washington, were sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    On motion, ORDERED, That the bill, entitled, An act to incorporate the Roman catholic congregation
worshipping at the church of Saint-Mary, in the vicinity of Bryan-town, in Charles
county, be committed to the honourable Charles Carroll, of Carrollton, William H. Dorsey and
James Hollyday, Esquires, to consider and report thereon.
    The bill, entitled, An act to dispose of Eden school, in Somerset county, and to apply the money
to the purposes therein mentioned, was read the second time and will pass with the proposed amendment.
    Amendment proposed.  In the 4th line of the 3d page, after the word "vacancy" insert the word
"residing."
    The bill, entitled, A further supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the establishment of select
vestries, was read the second time and will pass.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolution:
By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 17, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed to
advance on loan to Jesse Hollingsworth, Philip Rogers and Emanuel Kent, the sum of eight thousand
dollars, to be applied to the rebuilding and completing the academy in Baltimore-town lately consumed
by fire, reimburseable in five years, on the trustees of the said academy executing a mortgage of
the said property to the state for securing the repayment of the said advance at the time aforesaid,
and giving security, to be approved by the treasurer, for the application of said money to the improvement
of said academy.

Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    On motion, ORDERED, That the bill entitled, An act for the better administration of justice
in the several counties of this state, be made the order of the day for Monday next.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following bills, to wit:

A bill, entitled, An act for increasing the jurisdiction of the corporation of the city of Annapolis,

" to lie on the table.
