10            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1796.

T    H    U    R    S    D    A    Y,    November 24, 1796.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on yesterday.  The proceedings of yesterday
were read.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act for
the more effectual collection of the county charges in Allegany county, thus endorsed; " By the 
" house of delegates, November 24, 1796:  Read the first and second time by especial order and
" will pass.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, A supplement
to an act, entitled, An act relative to the proceedings in the court of chancery, and in the
land-office, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November 18, 1796:  Read the first time
" and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 24, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act to
incorporate the charitable marine society of Baltimore, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" November 22, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 24, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The resolution in favour of John Usher Charlton, was read the second time and dissented from,
and sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act for
the relief of Christian Weaver, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November 22, 1796:
" Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 24, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk."
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act to
confirm certain proceedings of the levy court of Cæcil county, and to enable said court to lay further
taxes for the support of the poor of said county, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" November 22, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 24, 1796:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk."
And also the following resolutions:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, November 24, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That the chancellor of this state be and he is hereby authorised and requested to issue
a patent to Banjamin Moreton, and to any other legal representative of James McBoyce, upon the
certificate of survey returned to the land-office by the said James McBoyce upon a tract of land
containing one hundred and one acres, purchased of the intendant, he the said Benjamin Moreton,
or any other representative claiming under the said James McBoyce, first making proof before the
chancellor, that the said James McBoyce died intestate and without issue, and that he the said Benjamin
Moreton, or other the representative claiming under the said James McBoyce, is or are the
nearest of kin in this country to the said James McBoyce, and that he or they are naturalized.
    And, whereas an escheat warrant may have issued to affect the said land, RESOLVED, That the
state doth hereby release, transfer and confirm, to the patentee or patentees, being the legal representative
or representatives of the said James McBoyce, any right it may have acquired to the said
land in virtue of any such escheat warrant.
                                                            By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which were severally read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The honourable James Hollyday, Esquire, has leave of absence until Monday next.
The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 10 o'clock.

F    R    I    D    A    Y,    November 25, 1796.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on yesterday, except the honourable James
Hollyday, who had leave of absence.  The proceedings of yesterday were read.
    The answer to the address of the governor, reported by the joint committee of both houses, was
read the second time and concurred with.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act for
the relief of the persons composing the eighth regiment of the militia of this state, thus endorsed;
" By the house of delegates, November 22, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the
" table.
                                                            " By order,                              W.  HARWOOD, clk.
