6            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1799.

    Which was read the first and second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the house of
delegates by the clerk.
    Mr. Ridgely has leave of absence till Monday next.
    The bill, entitled, An act to empower the justices of the levy court of Charles county to assess
and levy annually a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned, was read the second time
and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An act relating to the public roads in
Somerset county, was read the second time, passed, and, with the bill next before mentioned,
and the bill, entitled, An act to empower the levy court of Dorchester county to appoint a constable
for the town of Cambridge, was sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act
to authorise and empower the levy court of Montgomery county to assess and levy annually a sum
of money for the support of Ruth Glaze, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November
" 18, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 21, 1799:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk."
And a bill, entitled, An act to revive the proceedings of the orphans court of Harford county,
thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November 16, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered
" to lie on the table.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 21, 1799:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which were read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The senate adjourns until to-morrow morning 10 o'clock.

F    R    I    D    A    Y,    November 22, 1799.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Ridgely, who had
leave of absence.  The proceedings of yesterday were read.
    The bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Montgomery county to
assess and levy annually a sum of money for the support of Ruth Glaze, was read the second time
by especial order and will pass.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act
to prevent the going at large of swine and poultry in the town of New-Market, in Frederick
county, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November 19, 1799:  Read the first time
" and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, November 22, 1799:  Read the second time and will pass.
                                                        " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk."
And also the following message:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, November 22, 1799.
        GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,
    THE office of register of wills for Worcester county being vacant, by the death of Levin
Handy, and the executive, in the recess of the session, having appointed James Bowdoin Robins
to that office, we propose to proceed immediately to the election of a person to the office of register
of wills for Worcester county.  We have appointed Mr. McPherson and Mr. Turner, to
join such persons as may be appointed by your house, to examine the ballots.  James Bowdoin
Robins is put in nomination by this house.
                                                        By order,                                  W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which said bill and message were severally read and the bill ordered to lie on the table.
    The following message was prepared, read, agreed to, and, with the bill, entitled, An act to
authorise and empower the levy court of Montgomery county to assess and levy annually a sum of
money for the support of Ruth Glaze, was sent to the house of delegates by the clerk.
By the SENATE, November 22, 1799.
        GENTLEMEN,
    WE are ready to proceed immediately to the election of a register of wills for Worcester county,
as proposed by you.  No person is put in nomination for that office by the senate in addition
to Mr. James Bowdoin Robins.  Robert Milligan and William Hindman, Esquires, are appointed
to join the gentlemen named in your message in the examination of the ballots.
                                                        By order,                                  A.  VAN-HORN, clk.
    The senate then proceeded to the election of a persons to be commissioned as register of wills
for Worcester county; the ballot box being prepared, the ballots were deposited therein, sealed
up, and delivered to the committee of the senate appointed to meet the committee of the house
of delegates, who retired to the conference room, and after the examination of the ballots returned
and reported, that James Bowdoin Robins was unanimously elected.
    Whereupon it is declared in the senate, that James Bowdoin Robins be recommended by the
senate to be commissioned by the governor as register of wills for Worcester county.
    The bill, entitled, An act to revive and aid the proceedings of the orphans court of Calvert
county, was read the second time and will pass.
The senate adjourns until to-morrow morning 10 o'clock.
