96            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1799.

    The bill to repeal parts of an act of assembly, entitled, An act for the better administration
of justice in the several counties, passed at November session, 1796, as relate to the sitting
of Baltimore county court, was read the second time, and the question put, That the said bill do 
pass?  Determined in the negative.
    On motion, Leave given to bring in a supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the adjournment
of Prince-George's county court.  ORDERED, That Mr. Duckett, Mr. Addison and Mr.
Calvert, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
    The report on the petition of Clement Holliday and Clement Holliday Waring was read the
second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto.  ORDERED, That
the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and bring in the same.
    Mr. Warfield, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to
an act, entitled, An act to regulate elections; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.
    The said bill was read the second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the senate by the
clerk.
    Mr. Turner, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise
Benjamin Ray, junior, to collect the balances due him as sheriff and collector of Montgomery
county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    Mr. Turner, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to vest certain
powers in the corporation of George-town, in Montgomery county; which was read the first 
time and ordered to lie on the table.
    Mr. Duckett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to
the act, entitled, An act for the adjournment of Prince-George's county court; which was read
the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    Mr. Leigh, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise
and empower the levy court of Saint-Mary's county to assess and levy annually a sum of money
for the purpose therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    Mr. Addison, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An additional supplement
to an act, entitled An act relating to negroes, and to repeal the acts of assembly therein
mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    Mr. Perry, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to lay out,
alter and confirm, certain roads in Allegany county; which was read the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.
    Mr. Bond, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Jesse Jarrett, of Harford county, report,
that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion a law ought to pass to
carry the prayer of the petitioner into effect.

Which was read.
    Mr. J. T. Worthington, delivers to the speaker the following resolution:
    RESOLVED, That Robert Long be allowed on the journal of accounts, annually, the sum of
sixty dollars, for cloathing, supporting and maintaining, of negro Daniel during his natural life,
the property of this state; and provided the said Robert Long shall refuse to cloath and maintain
the said negro for the sum aforesaid, the sheriff of Baltimore county shall be and he is hereby
authorised and directed to contract with some person for the support, cloathing and maintenance,
of the said negro, on the most reasonable terms, on behalf of the state.
    Which was read.
    The bill to enlarge the powers of the trustees of the poor in the several counties therein designated,
was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
    Mr. Calvert, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Gabriel Peterson Van-Horn, and others,
of Prince-George's county, praying that a road may be laid out from the post-road near Lucy
Howard's, in a direction near the mill of said Gabriel P. Van-Horn, to intersect the public road
near Samuel Turner's, having considered the same, beg leave to report, that they think it would
be adviseable in this case to empower the levy court of Prince-George's county to order and direct
such road to be made, should they be of opinion that the said road is necessary.
                                                        By order,                                L.  GASSAWAY, clk.
    Which was read the first and second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill
pursuant thereto.  ORDERED, That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and
bring in the same.
    The further supplement to an act, entitled, An act to streighten and amend the public roads
in Harford county, was read the second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the senate by
the clerk.
    The supplement to an act, entitled, An act to facilitate the draining of land in the several
counties therein mentioned, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the
clerk.
