So it was resolved in the affirmative.
    The bill being read throughout, the question was put, That the said bill do pass?  Resolved in
the affirmative.
    A petition from Walter Smith, and others, of Calvert county, praying the chancellor may be
authorised to direct a sale of the real property of their deceased father Walter Smith, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. Taney, Mr. Carcaud and Mr. Brome, to consider and report thereon.
    The following question being propounded to the house, was read, to wit:
    RESOLVED, That the state of Maryland become a subscriber to, and stockholder in, the
bank of Baltimore, to and for the number of shares reserved to the said state by the act of
assembly incorporating said bank, and that the treasurer make the subscription therefor in behalf
of the said state, according to the terms, and in the manner and form, prescribed in said act, on
or before the first day of February next; and that the said treasurer shall, at any time, and at all
times hereafter, when there shall be three thousand dollars unappropriated money in the treasury,
pay the same to the cashier of the said bank, or his order, to be applied towards paying
for said shares, taking the receipt of the said cashier therefor, or of the person authorised to receive
the same by his order; provided always, that nothing in this resolution shall in any manner
affect any money that is now in the treasury which may be necessary to pay the civil list, the
journals of account, and the monies appropriated towards improving the navigation of the Susquehanna;
provided also, that the said treasurer shall also reserve a sufficient sum for the payment 
of the civil list during the several years that this resolution shall have an operation, as also
a sum sufficient, in his estimation, annually, for the payment of the journals of accounts in
the several years that they shall respectively become due; provided always, that the said treasurer
shall not, in any one year, pay unto the hands of the said cashier a sum exceeding ninety
thousand dollars, unless by express consent of the president and directors of said bank, previously
signified in writing in the manner prescribed in the said act.
    On motion, the question was put, That the further consideration of the said resolution be
postponed until the first day of June next? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

So it was determined in the negative.
    The report on the petition of James Steele, and others, was read the second time, and the resolutions
therein contained assented to.
    On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to establish a criminal court in Frederick-town, in
Frederick county.  ORDERED, That Mr. Warfield, Mr. Shriver and Mr. J. Thomas, be a committee
to prepare and bring in the same.
    The clerk of the senate delivers the resolution in favour of Edward Norwood, endorsed; " By
" the senate, December 21, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

" By the senate, December 24, 1799:  Read the second time and dissented from.

The supplement to an act, entitled, An act to direct descents, endorsed; " By the senate, December
