    On the second reading of the bill to aid and revive the proceedings of the court of appeals,
the question was put, That the following clause be received as an amendment to the said bill?
" And be it enacted, That the number of the said judges shall be completed to five, as soon as
the vacancies can be supplied by men of sound legal knowledge and integrity who can be found
willing to accept the same."  The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

So it was determined in the negative.
    The bill being read throughout, the question was put, That the said bill do pass?  Resolved in
the affirmative, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
    Mr. Ridgely has leave of absence.
    The report on the petition of Thomas Cockey Deye was read the second time, and the resolutions
therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
    On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to establish the salaries of the judges of the court of
appeals.  ORDERED, That Mr. Key, Mr. Taney and Mr. Cottman, be a committee to prepare
and bring in the same.
    The report on the petition of Gassaway Watkins was read the second time, and the resolution
therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
    The report on the petition of Samuel Vincent was read the second time, concurred with, and
leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto.  ORDERED, That the committee appointed on
the said petition prepare and bring in the same.
    A petition from John Ryan of Cæcil county, praying a return of £. 33 9 6, an over payment
into the treasury for confiscated property, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Lowrey, Mr.
P. Thomas and Mr. McPherson to consider and report thereon.
    Mr. J. Buchanan, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of John Johnson, of Washington county,
report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and finding the facts therein stated
to be true, are of opinion that the prayer of the petitioner ought to be granted.
                                                        By order,                                        J. F.  HARRIS, clk.
    Which was read the first and second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill
pursuant thereto.  ORDERED, That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and
bring in the same.
    Mr. J. Buchanan, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of John Showman, of Washington county,
report, that they have read and considered the same, and are of opinion that the prayer of the
petitioner ought to be granted.

    Which was read the first and second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill
pursuant thereto.  ORDERED, That the committee appointed on said petition prepare and
bring in the same.
    The bill to provide for the administration of justice in cases of crimes and misdemeanours in the
city and county of Baltimore, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
    Mr. Key, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to establish the
salaries of the judges of the court of appeals; which was read the first and second time by especial
order, and the question put, That the said bill do pass?  The yeas and nays being required,
appeared as follow:

allowance to jurymen and witnesses of the general court, and the several county and orphans
courts in this state, the question was put, That each juryman to the general court be allowed two
